After rescheduling two times, the weather finally cooperated and we were able to go up the mountain to the home of Mr. Grover Ramsey. I had been in constant communication with Grover's daughter, Frances, who had arranged the session for her dad. We pulled into Grover's driveway and immediately I knew this was going to be one special photoshoot. There was a beautiful flower garden that lined the driveway that the family had made in memory of Grover's wife and the mother to his 7 children. Lillies were in bloom and special markers and signs decorated the garden. For some reason I could just already start to feel the love of family from this very first stop! Now I have heard the name Grover Ramsey...well for most of my life and I probably have come in contact with him one time or another. I know my mother-in-law always speaks so highly of Grover, but it was not until I actually had the chance to talk with him that I finally realized what a special, kind, hardworking, generous, and caring man he is. My goodness, from one little picture posted on Facebook I got comments like...."I love Mr. Ramsey"...."what a special man"...."great man and family"...."he very seldom shows up at the office without a goody bag for us"......and of course all his daughters commented on how much they love him, what a hard worker he is and called they him their hero. Yes, Yes, and YES to all of that! I was with this family for almost 3 hours and they made me feel so welcome and literally like I was one of the family! Heck, I even got invited to his birthday party! I photographed Grover in his huge vegetable garden...and oh my, what a garden it is! We started talking about his garden and he told me that sometimes he comes out in the morning and stays in it all day, "depending on how he feels". Oh, did I mention that Grover is 85??? I asked him what he did with all the produce from the garden and he said "give alot of it away" and his daughters chimed in "and we can all summer!" Oh my, I could go on and on with the locations we shot at and the stories Grover and his family told me....the rock in the creek that saved his life, the "milk" pistol (I loved that story), Grover's collections, etc. Literally, I photographed Grover for 2 hours and never once was there a complaint from him...actually he was more concerned about me telling me "you need to sit down" or "here, take my water". When you look at these photos, you will notice some little constant companions of Grover's...his little dogs. Sometimes in the photos, it looks like the dogs are posed but they are not. Wherever Grover went...those little dogs were right as his heels. Another thing that is obvious when you look at these photos is the love this family has for Grover. Enjoy a little bit of my afternoon with Grover and his family. It was hard to pick some favorites to post. His family will have some memories to last a lifetime in the gallery that I give to them! I think Frances and her brother and sisters are on to something here folks! If you have aging parents...take out your camera!
